Cacao: Loosely translated means "Food of the Gods".

And cacao is basically what chocolate is made of. So we here at Christmas Gifts Cottage decided to try some chocolate.com chocolates to see whether or not they really are "food of the gods". First we decided to find out about cacao.  (Naturally we wouldn't want to recommend "bad" chocolate.)

When the surprisingly small Cacao plant is planted....

It grows into a big cacao tree. Each tree producing 60-70
cacao pods. After about six months of maturation, each pod yields 20-40 valuable white cacao beans. Those are allowed to ferment for a few days. Giving them the brown color, and that fabulous chocolate flavor. Everyone loves.

This is when their new life in the world of chocolate begins. Will they become a truffle? Candy bar? Dark or milk chocolate pieces? And, of course, how rich will they be?

Want to know how rich your confection will be?

Check your chocolate box or wrapping for a listing of it's
percentage of cacao. The more the better. And the richer
your confection will be. And according to many scientists,
dark chocolate is also beneficial to your health. So if there
ever was a good reason to eat it........

That in mind, we checked into what Chocolate.com has to offer. And how much cacao is in their chocolates. Here's what we discovered:

Chocolate.com features handmade, artisan, and gourmet chocolate gifts, from world-class chocolate vendors. Their catalog contains thousands of products from over 80 vendors. Many of which contain over 75% cacao; some with as much as 90%.

Here's just a sampling of confections they carry:

  • Truffles
  • Chocolate bars
  • Fudge
  • Brownies
  • Cookies
  • Cakes
There are 357 gifts to choose from. Including rich dark, luscious milk and white chocolates.  Almond stuffed dates, red-velvet cake, Belgian chocolates, Cookies and Cream Oreo Cake, Cashew-Galores, Truffles, Triple-Chocolate Brownies, Milk Chocolate Marshmallow Nut Chocolates, Tiramisu Cake.

Chocolate.com has strict guidelines for it's vendors. In fact, they regularly test and check to be sure they're being followed. For one thing, they require chocolate made from the best cacao and other ingredients. Plus all confections must be fresh when shipped.  So as you can imagine, they're working with some of the world's finest chocolatiers.

While they have many specialty categories, here's just a few - Kosher, organic, vegan, sugar-free, white choco-late and fair-trade.

And of course there's our favorite - the truffle.

Good and pure chocolate confections come from real chocolatiers. And there is, perhaps, no more popular confection in the world of chocolate - than the delectable Truffle.

What exactly is a Chocolate Truffle?

A Truffle is a delectable piece of chocolate with a whipped
center. That center is created by blending together fresh
chocolate with whole milk. To form a ganache. That ganache is then enrobed in premium milk, dark or white chocolate. The finished chocolate decorated to resemble not just a fine chocolate - but a work of art. Which is one of the reasons why each Truffle is different. And remember, fine chocolate such as that found in Truffles is without preservatives.

We, ourselves, tried a variety of Truffles. While we loved them all, we especially liked The Dark Truffle collection. Which consists of 6 different variations. All in a dark Truffle ganache. With 72% cacao.  The dark chocolate it's wrapped in, a unique dark roast blend. More than enough cacao to satisfy even the most serious chocoholic.

We also tried some of their dark chocolates (see photo below.)

The Dark Family Assortment - (above) is a popular assortment of fresh cherry cordials, smooth butter caramels, pecan tootles, crisp nuts, crispy centers, soft crème centers, and meltaways richly covered in the finest pure dark chocolate. Kosher Certified by the Orthodox Union. We set this wonderful box of chocolates on the table after a small family gathering. Instead of dessert. Believe me when I say they ate everything in the box!

What's the fastest way to a woman's heart? Wow. That's an easy one. Aside from diamonds - (well they are a girls best friend! ) Chocolate of course!  Always the perfect gift. One sure to please even the hardest to buy for. A gift so delectable almost everyone loves to receive it. It's an indulgence that's sure to please.

Still not sure what to gift her with? Check out the Sampler Shipper. It contains a sample of each and every flavor available.  Or, check out the chocolate gift baskets. She'll adore you when you gift her with one. Not to mention it's a great way of getting out of the dog house. Or, gift a friend, neighbor or co-worker. Send chocolates as a thank-you gift.
